Patron's Statement - Justice Tennent
I was honoured to be invited to be patron of the association. My involvement with it goes back almost 30 years to when I first came to Tasmania and began to practice.
A meeting I recall attending then was very small and involved almost no practicing lawyers. The association of today is a vastly different entity.
It has access to a wide range of experiences of women in the law in this state, the ability to tap into the experiences of lawyers interstate and deals with a broad range of issues affecting women lawyers generally.
It provides a forum for women lawyers to seek advice from those with more experience about particular problems being faced or to simply meet socially.
Often, to find that someone else may be facing the same difficulties that you are inevitably makes those difficulties easier to deal with.
I commend the association for the progress it has made in highlighting particular issues affecting women lawyers and acting to deal with them.
